The English synth-pop band Soft Cell has had a lot of success with cover songs. Singer Marc Almond and instrumentalist David Ball met in 1979 when they were students at Leeds Art College. In 1981, they released "Tainted Love" which was a cover of an obscure B side of a song by American soul singer Gloria Jones. Soft Cell's version spent a record-breaking 43 weeks on the Billboard Top 100. The very popular 12-inch extended dance version contained a medley of "Tainted Love" and another cover, "Where Did Our Love Go," originally recorded by The Supremes. The Motown hit was the first #1 for The Supremes in 1964. Both songs remained very popular in dance clubs throughout the '80s.  The backing track for "Where Did Our Love Go" is available as an instrumental on Karaoke Version.
