Slim Dusty, (real name David Gordon Kirkpatrick) served as one of Australia's biggest musical exports, a working stockman lovingly nicknamed the "King of Country Music" who unwittingly helped to pioneer the "bush ballad" genre. His love of rural Australia ran deep, and he became known for classic tracks like "Leave Him in the Long Yard" while later performing the iconic "Waltzing Matilda" at the closing ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. A collaboration with fellow Australian country singer Lee Kernaghan, "Leave Him in the Long Yard" was crowned best group vocal at the 1994 CMAA Awards.
