"Quicksand Jesus" is a song by American heavy metal band Skid Row, included in their 1991 second studio effort, Slave to the Grind. Featuring a rawer, harsher sound than its predecessors, Slave to the Grind was an unprecedented success, becoming the first heavy metal album to top the Billboard 200 since the adoption of the Nielsen SoundScan system. The album produced five singles: "Monkey Business," "Slave to the Grind," "Wasted Time," "In a Darkened Room," and "Quicksand Jesus." Written by guitarist Dave "The Snake" Sabo and bassist Rachel Bolan, and produced by Michael Wagener, the latter is a poignant power ballad about sticking to one's faith at all times, inspired partly by a religious figure in Sabo's mother's garden and also by the outbreak of the Gulf War in 1990. According to its creators, "Quicksand Jesus" took a long time to write but ended up being their favorite song in their entire catalog.
