"Promised You a Miracle" is a song by Scottish rock band Simple Minds. It was released as the the lead single of their fifth studio album New Gold Dream (81–82–83–84) on April 2, 1982. Written by Jim Kerr, Charlie Burchill, Derek Forbes, and Mick MacNeil, the track features extensive use of synthesizers and elements from new wave, dance music, and funk. It is regarded as one of the band's first experiments in pop music, bridging the gap between their more obscure-sounding early releases and the anthemic arena rock that would propel them to international stardom. Shortly after its release, "Promise You a Miracle" became Simple Minds' first major hit in the UK, peaking at Number 13 on the Official UK Singles Chart and staying there for 11 weeks. The song ushered in a new era of commercial success for the group, which landed 21 consecutive hit singles in the UK charts in the following years. In 1987, the band released a live version that reached Number 19 in the UK while also charting in France, Ireland, and the Netherlands.
