As the story goes, "Alive" was originally intended for Adele, and you can certainly imagine the lung-busting runs of this epic pop stunner perfectly suiting the UK popstar's powerful voice. The song was reportedly co-written with Adele and Tobias Jesso Jr for Adele’s third album, 25, – and also rejected by Rihanna – but after Adele turned the track down, Sia made "Alive" her own. Working as the lead single from the Australian singer and songwriter's seventh studio album This Is Acting, (2016), "Alive" opens with plaintive piano and synths, Sia's voice pitched-down to project a melancholic hue as she sings, "I was born in a thunderstorm / I grew up overnight / I played alone, I played on my own / I survived", before it erupts with the earth-shaking weight of a Sia power ballad. "Alive" went to Number 56 on the US Billboard Hot 100, as well as debuting at Number 10 in Australia and certified platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association.
