As a charming funk band from LA comprising core members Ryan Lerman – a former touring bassist for Ben Folds – and multi-faceted everyman Jack Conte and their ever-rotating lineup of top-notch musicians, Scary Pockets aren't quite as scary as their namesake suggests. The group have been putting their stamp on a wide variety of tunes every single week since first emerging on the scene in 2017, including "Dancing Queen" by ABBA, "Lost Cause" by Billie Eilish, "Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheatus, "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys and "Can't Feel My Face" by The Weeknd. In 2021, the group gave Harry Styles's summer lovin' funk-pop scorcher "Watermelon Sugar" – which was featured on the UK popstar's second studio album Fine Line, released in 2019, and was inspired by Richard Brautigan's post-apocalyptic 1968 novel, In Watermelon Sugar – a fresh lick of paint, Scary Pockets-style, with the help of David Ryan Harris.
