Repping truck drivers all over America with his ode to the road, Ronnie Milsap's "Prisoner of the Highway" gave a voice to the people whose lives and livelihoods rely on driving. Right out of the gates, he sings about "diesel powers", "eighteen wheels to rollin'" and 'pulling it on to the Interstate.' Written by hit-maker Mike Reid, country singer Ronnie Milsap recorded and released "Prisoner of the Highway" in 1984 and the song sounds thrillingly like a product of its time, with a flash of retro-futurist synths married to his plaid-decked country. Ronnie Milsap issued "Prisoner of the Highway" as the second single from his 1984 album One More Try for Love, which also boasted a similarly automotive-themed song in "She Loves My Car." The record slotted in comfortably at number ten on the country charts while clinging onto the lower rungs of the US Billboard 200 where it went to number 180.
