Roberta Flack let her gorgeous, smoky voice do the talking on this blissful 1970 version of "Let It Be Me," which was featured on the "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" and "Killing Me Softly with His Song" hitmaker's second album Chapter Two (1970). She opens the song with a proclamation of her love: "I bless the day I found you / I want to stay around you / And so I beg you / Let it be me," her soothing tones working their way through the track's slow, understated and elegant arrangement. "Let It Be Me" was originally rendered in French in 1955 (under the title"Je t'appartiens") as interpreted by Gilbert Bécaud but enjoyed worldwide success with the Everly Brothers releasing the first English version in 1957 that climbed to Number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song has been covered by numerous artists over the years including Nina Simone, Tom Jones, Willie Nelson and Rod Stewart.
