“Killing the Blues” was written by Chris Isaak's bassist Rowland Salley in the 1970s (and later formed the title track of his 2005 solo album), popularised by John Prine, recorded by Shawn Colvin, and covered by bluegrass-country star Alison Krauss and Led Zeppelin leader Robert Plant, who put their unique stamp on the poetic Americana anthem in 2007 for their acclaimed collaborative album Raising Sand.
