Kicking off with a red-hot riff, REO Speedwagon go hell-for-leather on a powerful pedal-to-the-floor road tripper that boasts a gnarly guitar solo and even gnarlier vocals. "I'm back on the road again, it's time I leave you now / And maybe I'll see you next time, that I'm around / Until then I hope you're happy baby and good times come your way / I'm back on the road again, I'm on my way," yells lead vocalist Kevin Cronin on the song, which was written by REO Speedwagon bass guitarist Bruce Hall. Featured on the Champaign, Illinois band's eighth studio album Nine Lives (1979), which marked a pivot back to hard rock sound made it into the US Top 40 at the time of its release, "Back on the Road Again" is a rapid-fire meditation of life on the road by a prolific touring band at the top of their game.
