"Goodbye Horses" (1988) is perhaps the only and best-known song by the elusive American singer Q Lazzarus. Written and produced by William Garvey, one of Q Lazzarus' bandmates, "Goodbye Horses" is a song about transcending earthly pleasures (represented by the horses in the title) and features several elements from new wave, dark wave, and synthpop. It was first released as a single in 1988 after film director Jonathan Demme included it in his movie Married to the Mob. However, the track would become even more popular thanks to its appearance during Buffalo Bill's iconic dance scene in Demme's 1991 psychological horror film The Silence of the Lambs. Despite the song achieving cult status during the early 1990s, Q Lazzarus disappeared from the public eye shortly after the breakup of her band Q Lazzarus and the Resurrection in 1996. Over the next few decades, "Goodbye Horses" was covered by Fan Death, Kele Okereke of Bloc Party, and the Deftones side project, Crosses.
