Postmodern Jukebox, the viral jazz group led by pianist Scott Bradlee, has made a name for themselves covering contemporary pop hits in music styles of the early 20th century, most often opting for a jazz or Big Band sound. One of the group's successes is their reimagined version of "Carless Whisper," the hit song by English pop duo Wham! released in 1984. "Careless Whisper" is a romantic lament, with the narrator declaring their hopelessness over the end of a romantic relationship. The song features a haunting (and iconic) saxophone riff, resulting in a highly distinctive and recognizable sound. Postmodern Jukebox covered the song on a YouTube video, and the recording eventually made its way to the group's album Clubbin' with Grandpa (2014), which peaked at number 4 in the Jazz albums chart. Postmodern Jukebox's version of "Careless Whisper" featured vocals by Robyn Adele Anderson, as well as playing by Grammy-nominated saxophonist Dave Koz. The video was a hit, accumulating over 36 million views on YouTube and contributing to the group's early success.
