Even though its origins are not completely known, the children's tune "Baby Shark" is thought to be derived from a campfire song inspired by the music of the 1975 American thriller Jaws. In 2007, German singer Alemuel recorded a version in German titled "Kleiner Hai" that peaked at Number 25 on the local charts. Following the release of another adaptation by New York-based DJ Johnny Only in 2011, the "Baby Shark" song was turned into a global phenomenon by South Korean educational brand Pinkfong, whose "Baby Shark Dance" music video spawned an online dance craze in 2017. Based on Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No. 9, Pinkfong's version went viral in the Western world starting in 2018 and even entered the Billboard Hot 100 at Number 32 in early 2019. By 2020, "Baby Shark" had become the most-viewed YouTube video of all time, surpassing Luis Fonsi's "Despacito" and eventually reaching 7.5 billion views.
