"A Groovy Kind of Love" was written by American songwriters Toni Wine and Carole Bayer Sager, based on a melody by classical composer Muzio Clementi. It was first recorded by the duo Diane & Annita in 1965 and popularized further by the English beat group The Mindbenders later that year. In 1988, Phil Collins turned the song into a synth-laden ballad for the soundtrack of Buster, a film he also starred in. Even though the demo was finally used in the movie, Phil Collins recorded a full version co-produced by Anne Dudley that was featured in the album Buster: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. Phil Collins' take on "A Groovy Kind of Love" proved a massive success, topping both the US and UK charts simultaneously and becoming his only single to ever do so. The song also appeared on numerous compilations by the British drummer-turned-singer, including Hits (1998), Love Songs: A Compilation... Old and New (2004), and The Singles (2016).
