Adding to the rich canon of country and rock n' roll songs about boots and shoes (Elvis Presley's "Blue Suede Shoes", Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Were Made For Walkin'", Shania Twain's "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under"), Patsy Cline's "Shoes" is a swooning country gem about growing apart and a failing relationship. "But them shoes don't fit me anymore / They lost their shape when I lost all that I cared for / And someone else will fill the shoes that I once wore / Because them shoes don't fit me anymore", sings the legendary star. Written by Hank Cochran and Velma Smith and recorded by Patsy Cline in 1960, "Shoes" was featured on the influential artist's posthumous 1964 compilation album, That's How A Heartache Begins – which also includes cover versions of and Hank Williams's "Lovesick Blues" – following her tragic, untimely death in a plane crash in Tennessee on March 5, 1963.
