Country music game-changer Orville Peck is one of the most unique voices to emerge on the global pop music landscape in the '20s. The mysterious Johannesburg-born showman and queer icon – who has a predilection for fringed veils (he's never pubically revealed his identity) – released his self-produced debut album, Pony, on indie stalwart Sub Pop in 2019 and the following year received the Juno Award nomination for Alternative Album of the Year. His second, rhinestone-encrusted full-length, Bronco, arrived in 2022 and garnered critical acclaim across the board. "C’mon Baby Cry" is a creamy country toe-tapper that walks a twangy path between Glenn Campbell and Dolly Parton to portray a tale of fading love, with the crooner singing, “I can tell you’re a sad boy just like me / Baby, don’t deny what your poor heart needs” over widescreen instrumentals. Adding a dose of Hollywood glamour to the song's aesthetic, the video for "C'Mon Baby Cry" featured cameos from comedian Margaret Cho and drag queen Kornbread Jeté.
