American rapper Nelly has always been a little bit country. From his debut album,Country Grammar, to his country crossover hit duet with Tim McGraw, “Over and Over.” it’s clear the rapper is right at home in country music. The St. Louis native teamed up with country duo Florida Georgia Line for “Lil Bit.“ The three had previously worked together when Nelly was featured on the remix of their hit “Drive.” Nelly credits Lionel Richie as getting him into country music. He liked how Richie could record funk and R&B records but then have country leaning hits like “Easy” and “Sail On.” Richie even wrote one of country superstar Kenny Rogers’ biggest hits, “Lady.” Nelly plans to release a country influenced EP in the Summer of 2021.
