Nazareth navigate a Black Sabbath-friendly soundscape with huge hooks and blistering drums in this underrated hard rock gem from 1975. The Scottish band, who formed in Dunfermline in 1968, were at the top of their game when they recorded "Miss Misery" as part of their triumphant sixth album Hair of the Dog in 1975. Written by Darrell Sweet, Dan Mccafferty, Pete Agnew, and Manny Charlton, "Miss Misery" finds Nazareth in doom and gloom mode as they lament the existence of a love that brings with it more pain than joy. They long to be set free: "Got to break this spell you hold on me," goes the pre-chorus. Ultimately, Hair of the Dog turned up the commercial dial on the band's career, yielding a string of hit tracks including a cover of The Everly Brothers' "Love Hurts" (on the US version, but not the Canadian/European, it replaced the original "Guilty"), "Beggars Day" and "Please Don't Judas Me."
