The daughter of renowned jazz pianist Nat King Cole, American R&B singer Natalie Cole made her debut in 1975 with the album Inseparable, which rose to the top of the R&B charts in the US and drew comparisons to the work of her longtime idol, soul legend Aretha Franklin. After releasing the equally successful Natalie in 1976, the singer returned the following year with Unpredictable, her second album to hit Number 1 in the United States. Just like her previous outings, the LP was mostly written by the songwriting and producing duo of Chuck Jackson and Marvin Yancy and yielded the smash hit "I've Got Love on My Mind." The album also featured the slow-burning R&B jam "I'm Catching Hell (Living Here Alone)," in which a repentant lover urged other women to treasure their partners and do everything within their power to save their relationship. Despite not having been released as a promotional single, the track would go on to become one of Natalie Cole's signature songs, as well as a staple of her live repertoire.
