"The Happiest Christmas Tree" is a Christmas song by American singer, jazz pianist, and actor Nat King Cole. Ever since the beginning of his recording career in the early 1940s, the Alabama native has recorded and released several holiday albums and songs that went on to become staples of Christmas music all around the globe. Records like The Magic of Christmas (1960) or The Christmas Song (1961) found the piano virtuoso putting his own jazzy spin on holiday classics such as "O Holy Night" and "Silent Night," as well as providing future generations with yuletide gems such as the Robert Wells/Mel Tormé original "The Christmas Song." In 1966, Nat King Cole released a collection of children's Christmas songs titled The Magic of Christmas with The Children's Chorus, which featured the first recorded version of the song "The Happiest Christmas Tree." Written by Cathy Lynn, the track would later be covered by British singer Joe Stilgoe on his 2019 LP Joe Stilgoe's Christmas Album.
