The late 2010s and 2020s saw the rise of one of the biggest and most controversial artists to come out of the contemporary country scene: Morgan Wallen. After getting his start on the sixth season of the NBC singing competition The Voice in 2014, the Tennesee star went on to make a name for himself with hit songs like “You Proof,” “Last Night,” and “Whiskey Glasses." Recorded in 2015 as the opening track of his Stand Alone EP, the Paul Trust-produced track "Spin You Around" captures the early days of Morgan Wallen's career, bringing an electric guitar solo and distant banjo plucks together for a romantic country-rocker, which was later re-recorded in pared-back form, with assistance from Joey Moi and Bryan Sutton, as a single in 2024. Morgan Wallen notoriously entered the mainstream with the chart-topping LP Dangerous: The Double Album in 2021 while also courting controversy that year by using a racial slur in a 2021 incident that was caught on camera.
