Miranda Lambert marked 2022 with the release of her acclaimed ninth album Palomino, which drew on cowboys, horses, Texas and evoked the immortal phenomenon of the American road-trip. Foot-stomping belter "Geraldene" is the fourth track on the album, and sees the country star pay tribute to another icon, the legendary Dolly Parton, making reference to her hit track "Jolene" on this ode to country. "I could see you coming all the way from Amarillo / Truck stop red lips pullin' on some nicotine / Shining like the spokes on a brand new El Dorado / You're trailer park pretty, but you're never gonna be Jolene," she begins, setting out a scene ripe with country imagery. Miranda Lambert first introduced an acoustic-leaning version of "Geraldene" on her collaborative record with Jon Randall and Jack Ingram, The Marfa Tapes, and took unlikely inspiration from hat-wearing US rockers ZZ Top for the tune.
