Assembling in Frankfort, Kentucky in 1976, Midnight Star harnessed the technology and electronic pop energy of the ‘80s to conjure a modern, freshly funk sound that yielded a procession of hits including 1984's US Billboard Hot 100 top 20 "Operator" and 1986 UK favourite "Midas Touch." "Wet My Whistle" was one of four singles on the group's 1983 album, No Parking (On the Dance Floor) – a landmark electro-funk classic which went to number two on Billboards' Top Soul Albums chart, incorporated future-facing vocoder and spawned popular singles in the title track as well as "Freak-A-Zoid," "Electricity." The LP also produced a quiet storm trailblazer in the legacy-making "Slow Jam."
