The origins of "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" date back to the '30s; the lyrics to this oft-covered song were penned by Eric Maschwitz, with music composed by Manning Sherwin in 1939. Some of the first artists to take on the tune were Glenn Miller (with a Ray Eberle vocal, 1940) Guy Lombardo, and Sammy Kaye. Legendary singers Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra also later popularised it. Canadian crooner Michael Bublé offered his jazzed-up interpretation of the popular song for his 2022 album, Higher. His version of "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" was among the many cover songs on Higher, which also saw Michael Bublé reimagine Bob Dylan's “Make You Feel My Love”, Barry White's “You’re My First, My Last, My Everything” and Paul McCartney's “My Valentine”, while delivering a handful of original tracks, including the album's title track which was inspired by his eight-year-old son, Noah.
