Cher took us back to the 1960s for this time-travelling crowd-pleaser, which was featured in 1990's coming-of-age movie classic Mermaids, also starring the "Believe" hit-maker along with Bob Hoskins, Winona Ryder and Christina Ricci. "The Shoop Shoop Song (It's in His Kiss)" was originally written and composed by Rudy Clark and released as a single in 1963, making itself known again at various points over the years in the form of a genre-hopping disco rework by Linda Lewis (1975) and a duet from Linda Ronstadt and Phoebe Snow (1979), among other versions. Cher's own roots as a 1960s pop trailblazer imbued her with the perfect credentials for this cover, which you can hear playing in the closing credits of Mermaids closing credits. Released as a hit single to accompany the US release of the movie in November 1990, "The Shoop Shoop Song (It's in His Kiss)" went on to give Cher her first taste of solo number-one fame in the UK.
