The opening lines of "Almost Honest" – “I lied just a little / When I said "I need you"/ You stretched the truth / When you said that you knew" – convey guilt and dishonesty, but they also flirt with resentment. Released in 1997, this hooky hard-rock confessional from the Dave Mustaine-helmed LA metallers builds on themes of romantic deception to arrive at the conclusion that, ultimately, this particular relationship is dust; "Living alone, falling from grace / I want to atone, but there's just empty space / I can't face tomorrow, now you're not coming back / Walked off in the night and just left me the tracks". "Almost Honest" was recorded by Megadeth for their 1997 album Cryptic Writings (released on Capitol Records), which was significantly their last studio album with drummer Nick Menza. The LP took the number 10 spot on the Billboard 200 and earned the band a Grammy nomination for "Trust".
