He'd "run right into hell and back," "never lie to you,” but he simply "won't do that." Written by Jim Steinman for Meat Loaf – who passed away on January 20, 2022 – the late US artist put his pedal to the floor for 1993 comeback triumph, “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That),” the lead single from his sixth studio album, Bat Out Of Hell II: Back into Hell, imbued with its ubiquitous hook (“I would do anything for love / Anything you've been dreaming of / But I just won't do that”). Following the heady days that came after 1977 debut album, Bat Out of Hell, and the subsequent bankruptcy period of the '80s, Meat Loaf enjoyed a return to form in the ‘90s, scoring a huge global hit with this headbanging power ballad, which not only went to Number one on both the US Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart but also won the Grammy Award for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance in 1994 at the 36th Annual Grammy Awards.
