Since its inception in 1970, the Bay Area-based soul band Maze (formerly known as Raw Soul) has cultivated a devoted following both in the United States and the UK, releasing 9 Gold-certified albums between 1977 and 1993. Led by singer-songwriter Frankie Beverly, the group managed to land several hit singles in the US R&B Top 10, including "Workin' Together," "Feel That You're Feelin," and "Southern Girl." In 1981, Maze released the live album Live in New Orleans, composed of nine tracks recorded at New Orleans' Saenger Theatre and four new studio tracks from a session at The Automatt in San Francisco. Thanks to the singles "Running Away," "Before I Let Go," and "We Need Love to Live," the album climbed up to Number 3 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and earned Gold certification by the RIAA. The album also included the fan-favorite "Reason," a touching R&B ballad about a man who has found purpose in a new romantic relationship.
