Mariah Carey steered her powerhouse vocals towards a traditional New Year's Eve song that has roots in an 18th-century Scots-language poem written by Robert Burns. "Auld Lang Syne" is traditionally sung at midnight to wave off the old year where revelers all over the English-speaking world get together to ask: "Should auld acquaintance be forgot / And never brought to mind? / Should auld acquaintance be forgot / And auld lang syne!" It seemed more than apt for the "Queen of Christmas" herself to take up the baton and sing the song for her Christmas album, Merry Christmas II You, which was released in 2010 as the follow-up to her festive 1994 landmark, Merry Christmas. Mariah Carey decks out her version of the song, "Auld Lang Syne (The New Year's Anthem)" with extra sonic fireworks, pumping it full of electronic dance-pop and general sass, for an anthemic corker.
