"Fox in the Henhouse" was inspired by a very real act of rural horror—foxes killing chickens. However, as Luke Combs began working on the song, it soon took on new life as a relatable tale about someone coming after something you love. "I'm tired of looking over my shoulder / I'm tired of losing sleep all week long / Tired of the uneasy feeling and the sinful deceiving / No, my soul won't rest 'til he's gone," he booms. "Fox in the Henhouse" oozes bluesy Southern rock from every pore. It shows the country star expanding his palette to bring rock into the mix while still keeping one foot in the bluegrass arena. The track was featured on Luke Combs's fourth studio album Gettin' Old (2023), a companion to 2022's offering Growin' Up, which was nominated for Best Country Album at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards. Gettin' Old, which boasts a cover of Tracy Chapman's 1988 classic "Fast Car," was once again co-produced by Luke Combs with Chip Matthews and Jonathan Singleton.
