All aboard the jump blues steamroller "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie" from Louis Jordan. Written by Vaughn Horton, Denver Darling, and Milt Gabler, this song captured some of the disillusionment and conflicting sentiments felt at the time towards the Second World War: "You reach your destination, but alas and alack / You need some compensation to get back in the black / You take a morning paper from the top of the stack / And read the situations from the front to the back / The only job that's open needs a man with a knack / So put it right back in the rack, Jack." Recorded in January 1946 by Louis Jordan & His Tympany Five and released by Decca Records, "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie" sailed to the top of the R&B charts in August 1946, where it hung around from 18 weeks, and has been recreated by a number of other artists over the years, including B.B. King, Big Bag Voodoo Daddy, Joe Jackson, John Denver, and Bill Haley and His Comets.
