Originally written by Mac Davis, Elvis Presley recorded sentimental tear-jerker "Don't Cry Daddy" in 1969 – at the height of his comeback period – and released it as a single with "Rubberneckin'" that year. Both tracks rose to number six on the Billboard Hot 200 the following year. Over two decades later, his daughter Lisa Marie Presley – reeling from the death of her father on August 16th, 1977 – gathered her strength to record a special duet video of the weepy song, which features her father. This was then shown on August 16, 1997 at the tribute concert to mark the 20th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death, deploying his original vocals but bringing in vocals from Lisa Marie as well as new instrumentation. Lisa Marie Presley went on to enjoy a music career of her own, releasing her debut album, To Whom It May Concern, in 2003 and putting other duets recorded with her late father's music, including 2007's "In the Ghetto."
