Released on April 1987, Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam's second album Spanish Fly established the urban contemporary group as one of the most successful acts to emerge from New York City's Latin freestyle music scene of the late 1980s. Produced by Brooklyn-based production team Full Force, the LP yielded the hit singles "Lost in Emotion" and "Head to Toe," both of which topped the Billboard Hot 100 and the Hot Black Singles chart. Featuring creative contributions by the entire Full Force team, the latter is an energetic freestyle track with Motown-flavored harmonies and the pulsating drum-machine beat sound that characterized the collective's production style. Full Force member Paul Anthony came up with the idea for the title after his girlfriend screamed that "she loved him from head to toe" during a workout session. Apart from being one of the group's most iconic songs, "Head to Toe" was also featured in an episode of the TV series Pose in 2018.
