After finishing runner-up on the tenth season of the massively popular singing competition American Idol in 2011, singer-songwriter Lauren Alaina went on to dazzle audiences throughout the United States with her country-tinged studio debut Wildflower, released later that year. Over the next few years, she released a self-titled EP, and her second full-length Road Less Traveled climbed to Number 3 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart, further cementing her status as a true country-pop star. In 2019, Lauren Alaina teased the upcoming release of her third extended play Getting Good with the singles "Getting Good" and "The Other Side," a deeply personal song about the recent loss of her stepfather. The track was unveiled on the dancing contest Dancing with the Stars, a show in which Lauren Alaina also competed, and was issued as a single the following day. Shortly after its release, "The Other Side" placed at Number 8 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart.
