After scoring a mega-hit with her platinum-certified, record-breaking single "Gloria" (which reached number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 where it hung around for a historic 36 weeks, at the time a record for any female artist), Laura Branigan struck again two years later with "Ti Amo." Originally recorded by Italian singer Umberto Tozzi for his 1977 album È nell'aria...ti amo, Laura Branigan adopted it as her own in 1984, turning the Italian lyrics into English, and putting an electronic pop spin on the dramatic love song which went to number two in Australia and number five in Canada. The track was included on her third studio album, Self Control, which soared to number 23 on the US Billboard 200 and floated to the top five in several European countries. Fun fact: Laura Branigan ended up performing her version of "Ti Amo" with Umberto Tozzi for a live Italian television show, on which the latter even stepped up to play guitar.
