American singer-songwriter Kris Kristofferson first recorded the country music tune "Help Me Make It Through The Night" for his 1970 studio debut, Kristofferson. Written during his stay at Dottie West's Nashville home, the song was inspired by a quote from a Frank Sinatra interview and features sexually-charged lyrics about a man looking for a one-night stand. Originally, Kris Kristofferson offered the song to Dottie West, but she declined due to the suggestive nature of the lyrics. Despite its overt sexual connotations, "Help Me Make It Through the Night" was turned into a crossover hit by Sammi Smith, whose version reached the top of the US Hot Country Songs chart in 1970 and received a Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. In the following years, the song was further popularized by artists like Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, Joe Simon, and Gladys Knight and the Pips.

Seems as though some of the lyrics were left out, but still a great track
