After his first studio effort, Ledbetter Heights, topped the US blues charts in 1995, singer-songwriter and guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd fulfilled on the promise of his critically-acclaimed debut with 1997's Trouble Is..., his second album and the first one to be released under the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band name. Just like its predecessor, the long-player shot straight to Number 1 on Billboard's Blues Albums chart and was certified Platinum in the United States two years later. Trouble Is... also managed to position all four of its commercial singles into the Top 10 of the Mainstream Rock chart: "Slow Ride," "Somehow, Somewhere, Someway," "Blue on Black," and the Bob Dylan cover "Everything Is Broken." Even though it wasn't released as a single, the hard-stomping second track "True Lies" is, undoubtedly, one of the obvious standouts from the album. Written by Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Danny Tate, the track tells the story of a man confronting his lover about her infidelities and features two long, electrifying guitar solos that perfectly showcase the six-string virtuosity of the Louisiana native.
