"You're on My Mind" was the fourth single from American R&B singer Kem's third album, Intimacy: Album III (2010). Raised in Detroit, Michigan, Kem worked as a wedding singer to self-finance his studio debut Kemistry, which was re-released by Motown Records in 2003 to great commercial acclaim. After his second LP Album II (2005) reached Number 1 on the US R&B charts and achieved Platinum certification, Kem deliberately took his time to carefully craft a proper follow-up to his breakthrough album. Released five years after Album II, Intimacy: Album III picked up where its precursor left off, favoring subtlety over ostentation and using restraint as an important creative resource. Nowhere is this more evident than on "You're on My Mind," a sparse yet tasteful R&B jam about a man trying to reconquer their significant other after a recent fallout. Just like the singles that came before it, "You're on My Mind" entered the Top 10 of the Adult R&B Songs chart, peaking at Number 4.
