“Between an Old Memory and Me” is a song by country singer Keith Whitley. The Kentucky native began his career singing in Ralph Stanley's bluegrass band while still a teenager. He started recording country music after moving to Nashville but never lost his traditional sound. While promoting his second album, he met and fell in love with country artist Lorrie Morgan. The two married in 1987. On the morning of May 9, 1989, the singer awoke, spoke with his mother on the phone, and was visited by his brother-in-law who said he'd stop back in an hour to pick him up for golfing and lunch. When he returned, Whitley was dead. An autopsy found the cause of death to be acute alcohol poisoning. "Between an Old Memory and Me" is a perfect example of why many consider Whitley to be one of the best country singers of all time.
