Country music is known for its extensive references to alcohol consumption and American country artist Justin Moore's "Why We Drink" is no exception. Featuring a long list of reasons to wet the whistle, the track is a country-song-by-numbers inspired by a night out with his parents that ended in an alcoholic bender. Co-written by Casey Beathard, David Lee Murphy, and longtime producer Jeremy Stover, "Why We Drink" was the second single to be released from Moore's fifth full-length Late Nights and Longnecks, issued in 2019. Commercially speaking, "Why We Drink" went to Number 1 on Billboard's US Country Airplay chart and reached Number 3 in Canada, where it was certified platinum after selling over 80,000 copies. The song also spawned a music video directed by Cody Villalobos, shot in Moore's hometown of Poyen, Arkansas, featuring Moore's mother and the singer himself riding horses and drinking by the fire.
