On Desert Plains,” the fifth track from Judas Priest's seventh studio album Point of Entry, (1981) the British metal kings show off "Metal God" Rob Halford's powerful vocals above an ominous guitar chug, rumble and gnarly solos. The song uses sublime natural imagery and climate to reflect self-identity and self-perception: "Full moon is rising / The sky is black / I heed your call I'm coming back / The road is straight cast / Wind's in my eyes / The engine roars between my thighs," he sings in the opening verse, accented by a stark drum beat from Dave Holland. The song escalates into a wash of fried guitars and Rob Halford's echo-boosted, glass-shattering wails. Point of Entry, the follow-up to the band's 1980 album for Columbia Records, British Steel – which introduced Dave Holland as a drummer – went gold in the US, selling over 500,000 copies, as well as reaching number 39 on the Billboard Charts.
