“The Prayer” is a great example of how a song can live on through the years, extending its lifespan with new interpretations. The song was written by David Foster, Carole Bayer Sager, Alberto Testa, and Tony Renis. It was first recorded by Canadian singer Celine Dion and Italian singer Andrea Bocelli, though in separate solo performances for the same album (the soundtrack for the 1998 film Quest for Camelot). Later that same year, Dion and Bocelli recorded a duet version of the song, which became a smash hit for both artists. The song won a Golden Globe for Best Original Song and was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song. In 1999, Celine Dion sang the song with a then 17-year old Josh Groban, who filled in for Andrea Bocelli during the rehearsal for their Grammy performance. In 2008, Celine Dion returned to the song with a live version, dueting once again with Josh Groban. This new version hit Number 70 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.
