On this serene piano ballad from Japanese singer, songwriter, rapper, and erstwhile YouTube star Joji, memories of a former lover pop to the surface like bubbles as he recalls their relationship through rose-tinted glasses ("She'd take the world off my shoulders / If it was ever hard to move / She'd turn the rain to a rainbow / When I was living in the blue.") The song is a far cry from the outré outpourings on which the comedy hip-hopper born George Kusunoki Miller built his early career. After ostensibly laying his previous aliases Filthy Frank and Pink Guy music to rest, he launched his music career as Joji in 2017 and released his debut studio album, Ballads 1, the following year. The LP went to number three on the US Billboard 200 as well as reaching number one on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. "Glimpse of Us" – which charted in the top 10 in several countries including the US and Canada – is featured on Joji's third album, Smithereens, released in 2022.
