"Just Got Paid" is a popular song by Bahamian R&B singer Johnny Kemp. Originally, the song was written as an instrumental by Teddy Riley. Later on, Keith Sweat wrote lyrics for it. However, it did not end up being released with Keith Sweat's 1987 album Make It Last Forever as originally intended. Johnny Kemp recorded a demo of the song, intending for another artist to later record it. His "scratch vocal" take ended up appearing in the final version. As the name implies, "Just Got Paid" is an anthem celebrating the simple joys of payday. The song would go on to become emblematic of the late 1980s New Jack Swing music trend. "Just Got Paid" was a massive success, hitting number 1 in the US R&B and Dance charts and breaking the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song even received a nomination for the 31st Grammy Awards in 1989, where it was in the running for Best R&B Song. Popular boy band NSYNC recorded their own version of the song in the 2000s, released as part of their album No Strings Attached (2000). CDB's 2017 rendition and Kurupt's sample in "At It Again" are examples of the song's continued influence in pop culture. It also appeared in the 2000 film Love & Basketball.
