Rhode Islanders John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band first formed in 1972 and began carving a name for themselves in 1980 following the release of two career-boosting singles, "Wild Summer Nights" and "Tender Years," which struck lucky on the radio and sold over 10,000 copies at the time. With its opening fireworks of saxophone, "Tender Years" remains one of the band's best-known tunes, a hearty slab of Springsteen-emulating heartland rock that was thrust back into the spotlight in 1983 when it appeared on the soundtrack for musical drama Eddie and the Cruisers, rising to Number 9 in the US. Re-issued as a single in 1984, "Tender Years" ascended to Number 31 in the US and helped pave the way for another run of success the following year: the title track from the band's 1985 follow-up album Tough All Over became their second chart-topping single on the Billboard Rock charts.
