The title track of Jimi Hendrix's groundbreaking 1967 studio debut, the single "Are You Experienced?" was, without a doubt, a product of its time. Recorded at London's Olympic Sound Studios during the peak of the psychedelic era, the track's backwards guitar and drum parts predated the advent of scratching by over a decade. Starting off with Mitch Mitchell's military snare, the song quickly builds up into a hazy psychedelic number, with Jimi Hendrix serving as a cosmic guide amidst a cascade of tape loops and fuzzed-out guitar. Largely based around one chord, "Are You Experienced?"'s drone-like quality has often been compared to Indian classical music.
