The American Christmas classic "Jingle Bell Rock" was first released by Bobby Helms in 1957, rapidly becoming both his signature song and a festive staple. In 2018, English singer Jessie J included a modern reimagining of the holiday classic on her album, This Christmas Day. Backed up by big-band jazz instrumentation, her version adds a modern twist to the beloved Christmas staple. This Christmas Day, its parent album, peaked at number 48 on the Top Holiday Albums chart. Penned by Joseph Carleton Beal, a Massachusetts-born PR expert, and James Ross Boothe, an ad writer, Bobby Helms' initial 1957 version, produced by Paul Cohen, remains the most iconic. The song cleverly extends the theme of the traditional "Jingle Bells" and nods to 1950s hits like "Rock Around the Clock." Its musical arrangement features distinct versions: one with Hank Garland's electric guitar opening, and another with Henry Ade's steel guitar. Singer Brenda Lee also left her mark with a 1964 recording for her album Merry Christmas from Brenda Lee.
