French new wavers Images were formed in 1986 by Mario Ramsamy, Jean-Louis Pujade, and Richard Seff and burst onto the scene that year with this teflon-tough synthpop banger that immediately put them on the map. "Les démons de minuit," ("The midnight demons")—which shares a name with a 1962 French film by Marc Allégret and Charles Gérard—shot to number one in France and held onto its position at the top for an impressive 13 weeks. It also reached the ears of Belgium, taking the chart lead in the Walloon region of the country while landing at number 31 in the Flanders region as well as making Europe-wide waves: "Les démons de minuit" reached number 20 on the European Hot 100 chart. Images went on to re-record a remixed version of "Les Démons de minuit" in 1996, and this appears on their chart-topping album Jusqu'au bout de la nuit. The group parted ways three years later, no doubt safe in the knowledge that they had penned an enduring French pop hit.
