“Baby It’s Cold Outside” is one of those holiday songs everybody knows; it’s been around in literally hundreds of iterations by many different artists, most often keeping the song’s playful duet back-and-forth. Interestingly, however, “Baby It’s Cold Outside” makes no mention of Christmas in its lyrics. The song was first written by Frank Loesser in 1944 as a tune to sing along with his wife at their housewarming party. Loesser then sold the song to MGM, who featured it in the 1949 film Neptune’s Daughter. Since then, hundreds of artists have dueted the tune, and in 2014 it was Michael Bublé and Idina Menzel’s turn. Bublé was invited to duet on the song by Broadway star Idina Menzel, for inclusion in her Christmas album Holiday Wishes (titled Christmas Wishes in the UK). Their version was produced by Walter Afanasieff and Rob Mounsey. The single peaked at Number 1 on the US Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, as well as Number 14 on the US Holiday 100.
