Hozier scored a Grammy nomination for his breakthrough track "Take Me to Church," on which he delivered a powerful protest song calling out Russia’s anti-LGBTQ+ policy. The soul-pop track, which was released in September 2013, was brought to life by an accompanying video directed by Brendan Canty and Conal Thomson that depicted a romantic relationship between two men. "Take Me to Church," which was the opening track of the Irish singer-songwriter's 2014 debut album Hozier, was nominated for the Grammy Award for Song of the Year at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards and was certified an impressive five times platinum in the US. Hozier, which was comprised of songs included on his previously released EPs, made itself known in charts all over the world, achieving top ten positions in Ireland, the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, Denmark and Greece.
